CMC Vellore’s seasoned physician-scientist and former Director, Dr. John Victor Peter, shared his 42 year perspective with our gala attendees, reflecting on his experiences as a medical student, junior and senior faculty member, associate administrative and senior director of CMC in its entirety.
During his presentation, he spoke about the John and Harriet Scudder family’s dedication to missionary work in India and the influence this dedication to medicine had on their granddaughter, Ida Sophia Scudder, the founder of CMC Vellore.
Dr. Peter spoke about the history and growth of CMC from a small maternal-child healthcare clinic to the #1 private medical college, nursing school and healthcare system in all of India. Within this context, he referred to the unique partnership that exists between CMC and the Vellore CMC Foundation, mentioning several of the research, educational and community outreach programs initiated by the successful fundraising efforts put forth by the Foundation’s donor community.
Prior to his closing, Dr. Peter laid out the multiplier effect realized by CMC through the nurturing of its Mission hospital network which spans the entire of India.
