The American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) program, an agency of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), provides assistance to institutions globally and aids in the development of innovative and state-of-the-art schools, libraries, and medical centers in over 80 countries. Over the past four decades, ASHA has become CMC Vellore and the Vellore CMC Foundation’s most significant and generous partners. Since 1982, working through the Foundation, CMC has been awarded over $14 million in ASHA funding. This has transformed how CMC educates its faculty, provides care for its patients and conducts data driven research.
Some of the innovative ASHA-funded programs implemented to date at CMC Vellore include advanced simulation training for ER nurses and a first-of-its-kind Advanced Toxicology Lab which serves not just CMC but is a resource for all of India. Another remarkable ASHA funded program implemented at CMC, is a Robotic and Virtual Reality Lab at CMC’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Institute, the first of its kind in South India. This state-of-the-art lab, equipped with robotic devices for gait training and upper limb rehabilitation, leverages technology-assisted treatments to foster neuroplasticity and improve mobility outcomes for patients.
Our Healthcare Innovation Award celebrates ASHA’s profound impact on patient care at CMC.
