Conducted annually, the Independent Publisher Book Awards honor the year’s best independently published titles from around the world. The awards are intended to bring increased recognition to the thousands of exemplary independent, university, and self-published books released each year. The Association hosted the winners of the 22nd Annual, 2018 Independent Publisher Book Awards on May 29th in New York City.

Dr. Finkel was awarded a medal for her book, Cancer Screening in the Developing World (Finkel, ML (ed). Hanover: Dartmouth College Press. 2018). The book is an outgrowth of Dr. Frinkel’s work around the world that is focused on cervical cancer screening. She has ongoing programs in rural Tamil Nadu India in collaboration with the Christian Medical College Vellore, and in Moshi Tanzania in collaboration with the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College. “These screening programs have saved the lives of countless women, which is hugely personally gratifying to me” Dr. Finkel shared.
