Model Trauma System (MTS) Research
Integrated Trauma Management for RTA and Other Severely Injured Victims
The successful implementation of this multi-tiered initiative will serve as a model “integrated trauma care system” that can be implemented across India, as well as in other LMICs.
Two U.S. based trauma subject matter experts are leading this research: Raj Narayan, MD, Chair of the Department of Neurosciences at Northwell Health, and Steven Flanagan, MD, Chair of the world-renowned Rusk Rehabilitation Institute. This research program has also received the institutional support of the University of Washington, the National Trauma Research Institute of Australia, the Adam Cowley Shock Trauma Center, Harvard Medical School, Inova Fairfax Hospital, Stanford University, and Microsoft Research.

CMC’s MTS program aims at providing results that dramatically reduce morbidity and mortality rates through the design and introduction of a set of culturally sensitive, evidence-based guidelines and treatment protocols targeted at improving outcomes for this traumatized population. This multi-year initiative is divided into four phases: prevention; patient transfer from the scene of the accident to the proper point of care; medical/surgical treatment; and physical and psychological rehabilitation – focusing on proper treatment of RTA victims from the point of injury to the final rehabilitation therapy session. This program will be measured against a series of stated objectives, predicted outcomes, and post-treatment patient data.
