Dr. Kanta Subbarao is the Director of the World Health Organization’s Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza. She is a virologist and physician who began her training at Vellore CMC with specialty training in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases. She earned an MPH in epidemiology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and received her postdoctoral training through the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, NIAID, NIH. She focuses her research on the prevalence of new viral diseases, including influenza, SARS, and MERS. In addition, she looks at pathogenesis, virus biology, and how the immune system responds to these infections.
